How to Ship a Car from Fort Worth to Dallas: Routes, Timing, and Costs

September 30, 2026 · Texas Warrior Transport

Fort Worth to Dallas is a short run. Thirty-some miles on I-30 if you go straight across, a little longer if traffic pushes you onto I-20 or the Loop. That short distance makes people assume it’s cheap and easy. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it isn’t, and the reasons have nothing to do with mileage.

Here’s how a short-haul move between these two cities actually works.

The Route Doesn’t Matter Much. The Timing Does.

The distance between Fort Worth and Dallas is fixed. What changes is when your driver can move. I-30 through Arlington and Grand Prairie is the direct line, but a loaded trailer sitting in rush hour between 7 and 9 a.m. or 4 and 7 p.m. burns hours on a trip that should take under an hour of drive time.

Most of our Fort Worth to Dallas moves run early morning or mid-day. That keeps the truck out of peak congestion and gets your vehicle loaded and unloaded before the afternoon crunch. If you need a specific delivery window, say so up front. A tight window on a short haul is doable, but it costs more because the driver has to plan the whole day around it.

Weather is rarely a factor on this corridor. Ice storms in January and February will shut down I-30 like anything else, and we won’t roll a loaded trailer through that. Otherwise, this is a year-round route.

What It Costs to Move One Car

Single-vehicle transport runs $1.00–$1.50 per mile. On a 35-mile trip, that per-mile number looks tiny, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Short hauls carry a $250 minimum for a single vehicle, and that minimum is what you’ll usually pay. The driver still has to fuel up, load, secure, drive, unload, and get back to position for the next job. The mileage is short. The work isn’t.

If you’re moving more than one vehicle, the math changes. Multi-vehicle transport runs $0.45–$0.65 per mile, with a $150 per-vehicle minimum. Two vehicles on the same trailer cost less per car than two separate single-vehicle runs. If you’re relocating a household with two or three cars, or a dealer moving inventory between lots, that’s the tier to look at.

There’s also a loading and handling fee on every job. That covers the driver’s time to load and unload your vehicle and secure it properly. It’s not padding. It’s the part of the job that keeps your car off the pavement.

When a Short Haul Gets Complicated

A running, driving car on a clear day is the easy version. Here’s what changes the plan:

Inoperable vehicles. If your car won’t start or won’t roll, we winch it onto the trailer. That takes more time and more care, and it needs to be disclosed when you book, not when the driver shows up.

Enclosed transport. Enclosed transport is available as a service tier if you’re moving a classic, an exotic, or something you don’t want exposed to road debris on I-30. It’s priced at the single/white-glove tier, and availability depends on scheduling.

Expedited service. Need it today or tomorrow? Expedited runs add 25–50% to the rate. On a short haul, that premium is usually worth it if you’re coordinating a move, a closing, or a dealer delivery deadline.

Volume. Moving five or more vehicles earns 5–15% off. Auction and dealer lots moving multiple units between Fort Worth and Dallas fall into this category.

Why the Short Haul Still Needs a Real Carrier

You could hand the keys to a buddy with a trailer. People do it. What you don’t get is a properly rated truck, a trailer built for vehicles, winch capability for a car that won’t cooperate, and a driver who has strapped down hundreds of cars and knows what a loose strap sounds like at highway speed.

We run a 2026 Ram 3500 dually flatbed and a Kaufman 4-car wedge trailer for vehicle moves. Heavy equipment goes on the Silverback 40’ Power Tilt Gooseneck — that’s for skid steers, excavators, and tractors, not cars. We’re based in Granbury, about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth, which puts us on this corridor constantly. Statewide Texas coverage plus Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas.

We’re veteran-owned. Scott Luckie is a retired Marine, and Kelly runs operations. That background shows up in how we schedule and how we communicate. You get a straight answer about timing and cost before the truck shows up, not after.
