Shipping an Inoperable or Non-Running Vehicle in Texas
July 5, 2026 · Texas Warrior Transport
You have a car that won’t start. Maybe it’s a project truck, a salvage unit from an auction, or a vehicle that died on you. You need it moved. Shipping an inoperable vehicle in Texas is different from moving a running one. Here is how it works and what you need to know.
What Makes a Vehicle Inoperable
An inoperable vehicle is one that cannot move under its own power. That includes cars with dead batteries, blown engines, seized transmissions, flat tires, or missing wheels. It also includes vehicles that roll but have no brakes or steering. If the driver cannot safely drive it onto a trailer, it is inoperable.
Texas Warrior Transport handles these. Our trailers have winch capability. That means we can pull a non-running vehicle onto the trailer without forcing it or damaging the drivetrain. We do not need the engine to run or the tires to hold air. We just need access to the vehicle and a clear path to winch it.
Loading a Non-Running Vehicle
When you request a quote for an inoperable vehicle, tell us the condition. Is it on its wheels? Are the tires flat? Is it in a garage, a field, or a driveway? That matters for the loading process.
We use a winch to pull the vehicle onto the trailer. If the vehicle has no wheels or tires, we can still load it, but it takes more time and equipment. If the vehicle is stuck in mud, snow, or a tight spot, we might need extra room to maneuver. The loading and handling fee covers that time.
For a single inoperable vehicle, expect rates in the $1.00–$1.50 per mile range, plus the loading fee. Minimum charge is $250 for a single vehicle. If you have multiple non-running vehicles, we can haul up to four on our open wedge trailer. Multi-vehicle rates run $0.45–$0.65 per mile per vehicle, with a $150 minimum per vehicle.
Where We Pick Up and Deliver
We are based in Granbury, about 35 miles southwest of Fort Worth. We cover Texas statewide and the surrounding states: Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas. If your inoperable vehicle is in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, or any smaller town in between, we can get it.
We also handle auction pickups. If you bought a non-running car from Copart in Lufkin or IAA in San Antonio, we can pick it up and deliver it to your shop, home, or storage in Granbury or anywhere in our coverage area. Just give us the auction details and the condition report.
What to Expect on Delivery Day
When we arrive, we will inspect the vehicle and the loading area. We need a clear path to back the trailer up to the vehicle. If the vehicle is in a garage, make sure the garage door is open and the area is clear of clutter. If it is on a slope, we may need to winch it from a different angle.
We do not drive inoperable vehicles. Do not ask us to jump-start it or push it. We bring the winch and we use it. That is the safe way.
The driver will secure the vehicle with straps and chains. We check everything before we roll. If the vehicle has loose parts, missing windows, or a leaking transmission, tell us. We will take extra care to secure it.
Why Ship with a Veteran-Owned Company
Scott Luckie is a retired U.S. Marine. Kelly Luckie served in the U.S. Air Force. They run Texas Warrior Transport. That means we show up on time, we communicate clearly, and we do not make excuses. If we say we will be there at 8 a.m., we are there at 8 a.m. If the vehicle is harder to load than expected, we tell you before we add any extra time.
We do not have a fleet of anonymous drivers. We own the trucks and the trailers. We know how to strap down a car and drive it across Texas without drama. That is the standard.
